Our Pou. Manaakitanga Kotahitanga Kaitiakitanga

Our Pou hold fast to our values.

Underpinning the Raglan Naturally Community Plan, they guide how we create a resilient and flourishing Whāingaroa Raglan together.

Threads binding us together.

Our Pou are the threads which bind us together.

They guide how we think about what a resilient and flourishing Whāingaroa looks like, and how we partner with our community to achieve this.

From the past to the present, and stretching out into the future, our Pou are the beating heart of a resilient and flourishing Whāingaroa.

They are the ‘Raglan vibe’.

A diverse group of children and adults gathered on a street, holding colorful signs and flags, engaging in a community protest or rally.

"Caring, inclusiveness, guardianship, initiative, care of the land and the people"

Manaakitanga

Lying at the centre of our relationships and essential to a resilient and flourishing Whāingaroa is our collective obligation to treat others well.

Kotahitanga

Kotahitanga strengthens our collective capacity to act in ways which are fair and equitable. Shared understandings about the nature of the issues impacting our community creates a unity of purpose. This is how we draw together our unique strengths and contributions.

Kaitiakitanga

Humans are just one element of our interconnected world. Kaitiakitanga activates our intergenerational obligation to care for and protect our environment – whenua, awa, moana, ngahere – and all that lives within them.

Manaakitanga

Reciprocity.

As a community, we are intricately connected by how we care for and support each other.

Lying at the centre of our relationships and essential to a resilient and flourishing Whāingaroa is our collective obligation to treat others well.

Manaakitanga is about reciprocity.

When manaakitanga is activated we not only respect and uphold the mana of others, we grow our own mana as well.

Kotahitanga

Unity.

Kotahitanga strengthens our collective capacity to act in ways which are fair and equitable.

Shared understandings about the nature of the issues impacting our community provides unity of purpose. This is how we draw together our unique strengths and contributions.

A connected and knowledgeable community able to contribute to the equitable and prosperous partnership envisaged by Te Tiriti o Waitangi lies at the heart of a resilient and flourishing Whāingaroa.

Kaitiakitanga

Guardianship.

Humans are just one element of our interconnected world.

Kaitiakitanga activates our intergenerational obligations to care for and protect our environment – whenua, awa, moana, ngahere and all that lives within them.

Exercising our kaitiakitanga means taking active responsibility for managing and mitigating our own impact on the environment. In doing so we recognise the consequences of these impacts occur inequitably across our community.

Responses to climate change, sustainability, renewable energy, community resilience, and zero waste are just some examples of how kaitiakitanga is essential to a resilient and flourishing Whāingaroa.
