Meet the Candidates event

Raglan Naturally, Raglan Business Chamber and Taurikura co-hosted the Meet the Candidates Event in Raglan on Sunday. It was a very successful event with all of the 20 candidates attending and a good turnout from the community.

Raglan Naturally, Raglan Business Chamber and Taurikura co-hosted the Meet the Candidates Event in Raglan on Sunday.  

It was a very successful event with all of the 20 candidates attending and a good turnout from the community.  Candidates were  in attendance for the positions of:

Waikato District Council Mayor

Tai Runga Takiwaa Māori Ward Councillor

Whāingaroa Ward Councillor

Raglan Community Board candidates

Waikato Regional Council Councillors

Ngā Hau e Whā Councillor candidates

Kawena Jones of Taurikura supported the event as MC and did a great job to keep things flowing and interesting.  Afternoon tea break provided a space to meet and greet.  Great to see so much support for those who are standing to represent us in local government.

When local whakairo artists Tare Kereopa and Raj Irving first heard Karioi was a theme of the 2025 Matariki ki Whāingaroa art exhibition they were inspired to jointly create a piece for the exhibition.
In the past five years Whāingaroa has faced its share of challenges. From the disruptions of a global pandemic to local road closures and power outages, the town has had to adapt quickly. At the same time, the cracks in wider systems are becoming harder to ignore. But what does it actually mean for a community to be resilient in the face of such change?
